Once a VAT return has been sent to the tax authorities, you can only change or supplement it with a VAT supplement.

If a correction to the VAT return is required and it turns out that you will receive or have to pay less than EUR 1,000, then the supplement may be processed in the next VAT return.

If a supplement under 1000 euros of financial year 2019 or earlier has to be posted to the first VAT accounting period of the following financial year, you have to manually create a general journal entry.

From financial year 2020, you can use the Record supplement amount in next financial year button to record a supplement under €1,000 in the first VAT accounting period of the next financial year.

Manually record supplement in next financial year (financial year 2019 or earlier)

The status of the supplement must first be set to 'Historical' so that it can be matched to the general journal entry..

Click on the Back office of Financials icon in the navigation bar and then click on General journals. Subsequently, in the now-opened scree, click on the General journal button.

In the next screen where you are asked which way to create the document that will form the basis of your general journal entry, select the option I want to type a document directly.

Create the now-opened general journal entry with the date 01-01-2020. The amount due can be debited and then posted to the VAT return of the first VAT accounting period using the general ledger account '18800 VAT Input tax'.

Next, the general journal entry can be matched with the supplement by clicking on the yellow square. It is important that the contact tax authorities' is filled in. Without the same contact, it is not possible to match the general journal entry with the supplement.

Use button to record supplement in next financial year (from financial year 2020)

A supplement from financial year 2020 can be recorded in the first draft VAT return of the next financial year (e.g. Q1 of 2021) using the button Record supplement amount in next financial year.

This button is available in a draft supplement when:

  • the absolute supplement amount is less than €1,000
  • the financial year runs from January to December
  • the VAT return of the first VAT accounting period has the status 'Draft'.

After using the button, the supplement is generated in your screen, the supplement is given the status 'Historical (closed)' and is matched with the general journal entry created automatically by Yuki with creation date 01-01-2021.

You will find the supplement amount in category 5b of the draft VAT return of the first VAT accounting period of the following financial year.
